Rattlesnake Record

Salamander on the trail; on the highway there was a "slow, salamanders crossing" sign.

Today was a record-setting day. For some reason, I had plenty of energy and speed, despite stopping to catch my breath from time to time and for photos. I reached the top of Rattlesnake in less than an hour, when I take into account that I didn't start my timing at the car, but at the trailhead, after walking a quarter mile (Map My Hike). My best time until now was 90 minutes from trailhead to summit. I was tired when I woke up, but I must have had enough sleep, if my timing is any indication.

Photos from the day:

I believe this might be a "Strawberry tree," which is a relative of the Madrona.

Statistics for the day:
Distance: 4 miles round trip, from trailhead (WTA*)
Rattlesnake Ledge
Conditions: Cool, overcast, rain
Load: 14 pounds
Elevation gain: 1,160 feet

Statistics, year to date:

Distance: 73.3 miles
Elevation gain: 21,890 feet. 6,932 feet until my second Rainier.
