Over two miles, the hiking elevation beside Goose Creek increased by 300 feet.

McCall, Idaho, May 5, 2018 -- There's still snow on the ground on the trail beside Goose Creek, which descends from Brundage Mountain, a ski area north of town. The creek descends over a waterfall which we never reached because we didn't have the gear to hike the snow that covers the upper portion of the trail. My friend, Tammi Hermann, has joined me for almost a week of hiking while we stay at the WorldMark time share resort in McCall Idaho, close to Payette Lake.

A tree along the route showed what a determined woodpecker can accomplish.

I felt out of shape, but I also haven't hiked at the 4,500-foot-plus level for a while, and that may have been a factor. However, the 4.5 mile hike involved only a 300-foot gain and virtually no load -- I forgot my backpack in the condo. So it was nothing to boast about. Still, it increased my total for the year so far, for what that is worth.
Today's Statistics
Distance: 4.5 miles
Elevation gain: 300 feet
Stats year to date:
Distance: 63.7 miles
Elevation gain: 15,610 feet.
